Crocodile worshippers kicked off their annual festival by feeding huge chunks of raw meat to the snapping beasts.
Followers of the Sheedi faith believe the crocs will not hurt them because they are disciples of their saint.
The more they eat the better their good fortune, it is believed.
So if the reptiles are feeling a bit sluggish, pilgrims at the Sheedi Festival in Pakistan try to liven things up by stirring the water with long wooden sticks.
"Sometimes we are lucky like today, but sometimes they don't move and we have to spend a lot of time stirring the water to make them ready to eat," said Khalifa Sajjad, custodian of the crocodile pond on the outskirts of Karachi.
The first croc to be fed is always the biggest one, 12-foot-long Mor Saheb, or Mr Mor.
