I have used it for my snapper setups. I just use cleaned play sand. you can get it at any home improvement store. The drawback with sand is that if it is sucked up by your filter, it will eventually wreck your motor. To keep this from happening you need to put a prefilter on the intake of your filter, like a spounge or a piece of panty-hose. Also when you put the sand in the tank fill the tank with water and empty it several times. This will get rid of most of the dust. Then let the tank settle. It will take a couple of days for the water to become completley clear. Hope this helps...

i use sand for diamondbacks and softshells. But as the other poster said, use a spnge prefilter for your filters. I also take an aggressive approach to cleaning the sand. I put in the sand, add water and then begin draining: i drain and then refil eiither like five or siz times in a row or i drain and refil simultaneously for about an hour. Otherwise i find it takes more like two weeks the water to be completely clear.
