wooden cages?

leoricco88 May 11, 2004 03:43 PM

hi i am getting very interested in the idea of breeding columbian red-tails and i have beeb doing my research. there is however one thing i can not find on the internet and that is if building a cage from wood would work. pretty much my biggest concern is the use of a heat pad and if it would work with the wood cage. if there are some that do work with wood could you maybe give the names of the companies. any help would be appreciated, and before i forget and this is for people that breed what do you think you sell more reptiles at shows the internet or around your area. again any help would be appreciated.

Wood cages work great and infact, if you build it yourself its the cheapest way to go. i have a great artical for you on building wood cages. www.herpo.com/cages/woodcage.html
and for an overview
www.herpo.com/cages/

as far as sales go, i make more money by working the shows by far.

thanks for the link. yeah pretty much my biggest concern was a fire hazard but wood is definitly the way i way i want to go probably mainly because of the price difference. in the back of my head i sort of figured reptile shows would be where people sell most of their stuff, and if i do end up being allowed to breed columbian's it will be an excuse for my mom to let me go to reptile shows.once again thanks for the help it is definitly appreciated.

Hi

Most of my cages are made from 3/4" oak plywood. I heat them with Kane heat mats and I have never had any problems with them.
There is more info and pictures on my website about my cages. I seem to sell my boas better at shows and just by word of mouth.
Here is a picture of my 3 cage unit.

Take care
Tom
