New cyclura slave

Really May 11, 2004 04:17 PM

Hi Everyone,

Recently, I adopted a Cyclura nubila hybrid from the Reptile
Society to which I belong and I'm having some serious
difficulty getting her to eat regularly. I've already called a herp
vet and she told me to give her a few more days and if she is
still not eating regularly or has unusual stool or loses any more
weight (she lost a half an ounce) to bring her in. Since I'm
paranoid, I'm probably going to call tomorrow and make an
appointment for her. My mammal vet was over here earlier and
agreed that it would probably be a good idea. However, in the
meantime, if anyone has any tips tonight, that would be great.

Her name, btw, is Kismet and she is eighteen months old.
She is tame and docile towards me, after a working with her for the past two weeks, but still tries to
attack anyone else who approaches her cage. I'm saying her, but
am really not sure and was originally told she was a he. There
is, however, no sign of sexual development, but this could be because
she was so undernourished.

I would also like to find out what her main strain it, but I don't
know how to post a picture.

Sincerely,

Susan

Congratulations on your new family member !

Check out www.cyclura.com

Read David Blair's care sheet info.

also check out the pictures of the various types of Nubila: Cubans, Little Caymens, and Grand Caymen Iguanas to see which your baby looks most like. At 18 months it might be hard to tell.

Good luck.

Thanks. I've already been to Blair's site and I also called
him on the telephone since the previous owner had purchased
from him. And, I've also been to cyclura.com to try to figure
things out. Right now, Kismet looks a lot like a hatchling nubila nubila. I went
ahead and made a vet appointment for her for tomorrow afternoon. My
vet is very familiar with Iguana iguana, but this will be her first
cyclura so I'm trying to gather as much information as possible
to help her out!
