Unshed Skin?

JethrozMom Jun 16, 2003 06:48 PM

hey guys, just got my pair of Jax on saturday and the male ("ratchet" has some unshed skin stuck to his forehead. The peice that's between the horns all the way down to his nose hasnt shed yet. I know this is a consequence of him not being humid enough before i got him, and ive changed that (misting 4x a day and i have a dripper in there too), but is there anything i can do in the meantime to get that off without stressing him out unduly?

Also, my female is gravid, what's the usual timeframe on babies? I know i have this info somewhere and im sure y'all have answered that question a million times, but i figure someone will be nice enough to answer it again!

Thanks guys,
Jamie

The next shed should take it off. Just watch the area in case an infection starts under the old skin (not that common). Lots of showering will help, and if you really can't stand seeing this you could go ahead and handle him to gently rub the shed off. He won't like it, but if it is loose it will come off easily. Areas on chams that don't flex much (such as ridges, top of the head, crests, etc.) often hold bits of old shed as the cham's motions don't loosen the skin as much.
