Houseflies

Are there places besides Skipio's and American Cricket Ranch that sell feeder houseflies? The Cricket Ranch didn't have a secure site when they asked for my credit card info, so I ditched out. And I don't need as many at once as Skipio's sells, though that's where I'd LIKE to buy from. Any other suggestions?

well, here's a thought re: Cricket Ranch - you could call them to place your order

I think Grubco sells larva and this place does, too:

Thanks for the help, lele! I wasn't familiar with either of those sites. I'm planning to call Cricket Ranch, but their site says they accept calls for volume and special orders (or some such), so I wanted to look for an alternative in case it didn't work out!

Here's a link that was given to me a while back. Maybe it can edu-macate you, as well as save you a few shekels.

CULTURING HOUSEFLIES

I don't have any first hand experience culturing houseflies, nor do I have any inclination to begin so. From what I hear, it's MESSY, SMELLY, and all the ingredients for a disaster! Just the thought of thousand or millions of maggots crawling in some bucket gives me the heaves!
Call American Cricket Ranch. Bill (the owner), J.R. (his son), and the rest of the crew are really nice people. Although their end of the business is prey items, they really enjoy talking to herpers.
Okay Bill, will you give me a discount on my next order now???

I have a sort of middle of the road approach to culturing flies. I buy "young pupae" from Grubco, separate them into manageable groups, put most in a small bar fridge that's warmer than my butter drawer in the main fridge. Let one group emerge into adults (a few days at 80 F) in a screen topped jar and release them into a small Reptarium with a very loose cover. I can dust a smaller batch through the screen and release them into my cham cage. Then I can watch cham joy!
