My experience with LLL Reptile

janome May 11, 2004 06:22 PM

Recently I was in San Diego. We drove up to Carlsbad and since there was a LLLReptile in Ocean side we stoped by to check it out....Well this was our experience...

They were VERY RUDE to us. Didn't say HI or anything when we walked in the door. We wondered around and not once did any one working there asked us if we needed help. The only time they spoke to us was when we stood on something, we didn't see a ladder, to see the snakes higher up that we couldn't see. Supposedly the item we stood on was a $100 item. I don't think so.

After wondering around and buying a book we left after only 10-15 minutes. We will not go there again. They didn't even say 'Thank You' for buying a book.

Not only will we not go there again but they are also NOT the largest in San Diego for supplies. We found another pet store and they had a much bigger selection in reptiles and supplies. Also the pet store, (this store didn't sell kittens/puppies)took much better care of their reptiles then LLL. The reptiles at LLL had dirty cages and some of the lizards were in way to small enclosures.

I'm not telling anyone to shop there or not. I'm just posting my opinion of them. The choice is yours...but we won't go there again.

...Just in case you didn't know. Also, come ON. 10-15 minutes and you got ignored...BOO HOO! There are two lines of thinking on this: 1. You go right up to people and ask if you can help...Some folks don't like that approach...Too much like high pressure sales. 2. You let folks look around for awhile, see if they ASK for help, ask them after awhile if they seem to need it.
My wife is in retail (the picture framing business)...She has been for 20 years. And she has used both approaches. She is of the opinion that most customers want to be "left alone" for at least a few minutes before being approached.
ANyway, this thread will probably be pulled soon anyway when KS realizes you are blasting one of their sponsors. Duffy

LLL can come off a little rough on the edges, but all in all they are good guys. They are true reptile people, pasionate about their hobby, laid back, and not really into entertaining a crowd, but just enjoying reptiles. They don't try to ooh and aww anyone, like some stores that have you feed their animals, they are just a staight forward this is what you get reptile store. They are not a mom and pop pet store that will find you a little critter. They deal with herpers that want a new specimen not kids who want a pet. They don't jump to help you, they wait for you to ask, which I like because I hate to be pestered. I hate store workers that play know it all on their animals. It pisses me off bad. I just want to go in get my animals and go. They have a low price guarantee, they keep a good stock, and can be cool people to. Shout out to Skillet at the Oceanside store, my Chondros is doing great.

I did not know I was violating anything. What the heck does TOS mean anyway????
I was simply posting my opinion. Don't you ever complain if you go into a store for help and they don't even acknowledge you are there? It was just the fact that they didn't say anything to us until we stepped on something besides a ladder. They could of said something like.."Can we help you? We have a ladder to view the snakes up higher." Nothing like that was said.

Also, YOU don't need to get down on me for posting my experience. I love the kingsnake forums and like to read other peoples experiences as well.

I did not intend to violate anything, just voicing my opinion.

TOS :"Terms of Serice"

This is one of stipulations that you had to agree to in order to use the kingsnake.com forums:

"Posting warnings about companies or individuals, posting notices about bad deals or dealers, or posting personal attacks about companies or individuals, is a violation."

I don't agree with the policy, but it's there nonetheless.

Agree or not... I understand the reasoning behind it, and why it is in Kingsnake's best interest. My feeling is that I do not pay a cent to use these forums, so the least I can do is try to abide by their rules.
And, of course, FYI was exactly that: I think/hope there was at least a little bit of educating involved. I personally find it very helpful and enlightening to try to view both sides of these and other issues. Duffy
