Animals lost in trade- what do i do?

Ghost425 May 11, 2004 09:12 PM

I just traded a monitor for a pair of crested geckos. I sent my animal overnight express, and it arrived at its destination in good shape. The geckos that he sent me overnight (via usps), on the otherhand, have yet to show up, but chances are rather slim for their survival after two days in a box. If the animals are dead when I get them, whose responsibility is it to compensate for the loss? Do I eat it, or does he make up for it? Thank you for your help...

What kind of agreement was made between you two? If nothing was said about this before hand and he doen't want to cooporate then there is not much that can be done, I belive. Good luck.

Hopefully he is a standup guy or gal and will do the right thing. If you recieve the animals dead, be sure to preserve the corpse with ice and contact him immediatly. More than likly instead of ruining his reputation with other collectors/ breeders he should compensate you in return for the corpses. It is hard to say with a verbal agreement, but I belive people to be generally good and to want to do the right thing, if in fact the reptiles were shipped. If you havent already try to get a tracking number to verify that the reptiles were actually shipped.
Good Luck

How did it all come out?

Question...is it pretty common to use USPS for lizards? I know its illegal for snakes. I just had an unhappy occurrence with a gentleman who sent a SNAKE USPS second day. Looks like the little guy is going to be OK, but I nearly blew a fuse when I found out he shipped him that way...and packed with no cold pak or insulation. Oops, I nearly started again!

Keep us updated on the situation.
