Our babies like to crawl around the lego my kids have put in their cage. Well here's a creative shed!

I wouldn't keep anything with holes the size of the snake in the cage. It may put try to get through but then get stuck.

We're novices and the snakes were so small when we put them in there we never thought about them getting stuck. We also actually never thought they would play going through the holes! They are growing like gangbusters and the lego will have to go!

Ditto!

I was awaken in the middle of the night to a rustling sound. I discovered my gopher snake in a little bit of a bind...

When I first caught him (about 8", I put a small clay pot in his enclosure. I knocked out part of the top and turned it updside down. It made a wonderful hide, but he would often come out the little hole in the top (the bottom of the pot) instead back out the way he entered. I didn't think this would be a problem.

Well, that was exactly the problem the night I was awaken. I turned on the light to find him thrashing about, caught in the hole. I pulled him and the pot out of the enclosure, and I couldn't manage to extracate him without injury. So... I went to the garage and retrieved a hammer to break the pot. After crossing my fingers and a couple of attempts, I managed to break the pot and free him without injury. Needless to say, I don't use clay pots for a hide anymore.
