update on my male Veiled

anemone May 11, 2004 10:19 PM

I got him in March, being a hatchling. And he's still doing absolutly fine. He still reaches me, so I'm able to handle him every once in a while. I bought a small fig tree, but he didn't like the wabbling thin branches, so we'll wait on that. I do have some questions though. He has only shed once. I posted here for help on it, but he was having problems, it wouldn't come off. I stayed home from school soaking and rubbing him and he turned uot fine, all went well. But he hasn't shed since. I'm doing every right. Cage, mist, lights, and all that. So whats the problem? And also he seems to still hate crix. I don't have any more fruit flies and can't find em here. So he's just pinheads everyday. He was eatting around 3-5 a day, but here lately it's to around 2 and I don't think that's enough is it? He just seems uninterested or gets thema nd spits em out. And I know he's hungry, b/c he walks around looking for food, even the bottem, but he won't eat crix! Yesterday he wouldn't eat any, but today he must have been starving, b/c he gobbled 3 in a row. He's still like 2in long, hasn't grown. Am I seeing a problem?

He's not shedding very often because he's not growing very fast. You may have to experiment with other foods to get him interested. You can try small silkworms, small night flying moths, small mealworms, regular houseflies (if he's large enough to get them in his mouth). He may be ready for a bit larger food...may attract his attention and taste more interesting than the tiny crix do.
