What do I have to do to get into the "in" croud?

sea_in_the_city May 12, 2004 07:35 AM

No offense to anyone, I'm just trying to have some fun with some beautiful animals, but it seems to me that there are some "clicks" in this hobby. I'm new to all of this and have posted some picks with a request for some people that have been in the hobby/business for a while to comment on my animals. I was curious to see if they were as nice as I think they are. But as I said, I'm new, and was hoping for honest and more expert opinions. No one relpied. People have looked at the picks, I can tell that much. Is there some sort of hazing I have to go through before being considered worthy of comment? I have gotten 2 comments from people I've talked to on the phone or in private e-mail, and I thank you Matt and Liddy. I hope I haven't offended anyone, just trying to understand now the whole heirarchy works.

Thats a real nice Panther,Are you breeding him?Could you post some more pics of him and the ambilobe's too?

gomezvi May 12, 2004 09:15 AM

Hey Doug;
Lemme know how you do with that 'clique' thing. I'm too busy with living to notice such things. My opinion is that unless you're in high school or are socially retarded, there's no need for such nonsense. But maybe we can paddle you for a lil while to pass the time (thank you sir, may I have another)...
If I don't post comments, it's not that I'm ignoring anyone. Could be that a question posted was already answered adequately by someone else, or that I'm just not qualified to offer a comment. As for the picture you posted of your Ambanja- I feel that ALL animals are beautiful and unique in their own ways. Yours is a beaut!

Hi Doug,

Not quite sure what you are referring to re: the cliques. I just searched thru all 6 current KS Chameleon Forum pages and only found your user name one other time. So if you are referring to this forum - well, you gotta post

As for the comments you say you got from others and that some looked at your pix - where? On the KS gallery? If so, don't count on it for feedback. Personally I only go there to upload photos or if someone directs it "please see my cham at *****"

If you are referring to other forums there are some that are not quite as active as this one. I think if you continue to post here you will find yourself very much a part of the community. I have been on this forum for over a year - from research, to purchase, to loss, to another acquisition. I think everyone is treated equal here (well, a few of us have our own little banter from time to time but it is all posted and doesn't leave anyone out - you know who you are ). The only time we form a separate group is when a long time and/or respected poster is unfairly attacked and many of us have much to say to the the offender. So other than juvenile posting all are welcome and treated the same - we have a lot of fun, too!

Welcome aboard!

First, don’t always expect to get millions of comments on every
comment posted, it is not going to happen, it is a forum and that is just the mechanics of it.

However, I understand what you are saying. I have posted several times before w/out getting any feedback to either questions I've had, or comments to pics.

I guess it also depends on how much you post and the quality of your posts. I have seen people that were not around 1-2 years ago and are now considered what you refer to as "the experts", in my opinion some of them really seem to be, while others don't.

So, although it is interesting that you raised a "hierarchy" issue and although there seems to be a pattern as to who replies to who, I personally wouldn’t worry much about it, it might just be the mechanics of one chameleon forum on the web.

Ok, I have to chime in on this.

I have been on this forum now for about six months. I have gotten a lot of great help and info from it, from well-spoken knowledgeable posters.

I have also been keeping Jax for ten years, and consider myself way above average as far as knowledge and experience.

I don't think there are any "cliques". I think people answer when they can, and when they have time. I answer when something catches my eye, and sometimes I don't log on for several days. I have posted and not gotten replies, but I don't let it bug me too much. It's just how it works sometimes.

One thing I will say, though: (And I AM NOT refering to the original poster of this thread, just an overall comment)

You are way more likely to get an egaging, effective and knowledgeable reply if you don't type like a mentally handicapped drunk 3rd grader who is taking and English as a second language class. For example:

This question would probably get answered:

"I am having trouble finding a good gutload. Can any of you recommend one? Thanks."

This one would probably not get a response:

"are cams moor kule then igwanaz if i hold him too much will he die...also do u think my cam is cool lookin.. i got him frum my brothur's friend... itraded him for a pokie mon card...thanks"

It's all about communication and human nature. Don't take things personally.

By the way, your Panther is indeed gorgeous.

Just my two cents!

the secret is to keep posting some will answer some will not after a while more will answer! some times they(we) can be a hard bunch to get along with but as long as you dont wear your heart on your sleeve and keep an open mind then everything will be fine welcome to the clique

p.s how does lele get those smily's on there i want some...lol

jdany May 12, 2004 11:36 AM

Thanks to everyone for keeping quiet about our clique.
The first rule of cham clique, is YOU DO NOT TALK ABOUT CHAM CLIQUE!
The second rule....

I am making an exception to our normal induction process to enter our secret society.
We need to take a personal look at your best specimen(s) in your collection.

After selecting your best specimen, please package him/her in an overnight package an send to: PO Box 8675309 jusjosh, IN 11111

Thats all there is to it. Now that you have been included.. please keep this information top secret.

LOL doug...are you invading my turf? these are my people! you broke up with me...your not invited in the in croud. Just kidding...I harbor only a few harsh feelings. Dougs an ok guy, treats his chams good...of course I taught him how, and I beat him if he does not treat them great.

LOL joe! I love your solution to getting in the in croud! But I think there are more rules for people that ask to get in the click, along with his best specimin he has to send a female ambilobe to his ex.

Once in a while someone has posted a pic of a cham they want an opinion on and gotten offended by the response. Not that you need to worry about such things...he's beautiful! But, my point is that sometimes people are hesitant to give an opinion on an animal's appearance for that reason. We also can't tell if the post is actually a sneaky attempt to get around the kingsnake forum rules about for sale posts (if I show my animals someone will offer to buy it) or even if the pic is truely their animal. I hope there is no clique here. It makes it much more pleasant and productive to participate. Many of us left earlier cham forums because the atmosphere was just too snotty. We all have personal tastes in our chams. I think they are all beautiful in different ways, but may not appreciate the looks of some animals that others think are gorgeous. Some of us filter the daily posts looking for the ones that are in trouble...and try to help them when time is tight. Probably no one is trying to snub anyone else.
