Anyone know what happened to Black Knight?

JayPoc May 12, 2004 09:24 AM

So whats the deal? I understand there is a lawsuit pending, and that we can no longer get the stuff through the previous channels. Does anyone know the nature of the lawsuit? Does anyone know where I could get a can or two as of right now? Thanks! Jay

I couldn't find it a couple months ago when I needed some. I used Provent-A-Mite insteadand it worked great. It's pricey ($20 a can!), but my animals are worth it.

I'll send you an e-mail...

I would put the information out here for all to see, but if I did I am sure that a lawsuit would immediately be threatened...and the thread would be pulled...

I am personally disgusted by the whole affair...

Watch for your e-mail...

I will send it to anyone who is interested in finding out why what is (in my opinion) the single most effective treatment against reptile mites is currently not available to the herp community...

It is an interesting tale of greed, control and market-manipulation...

Anyone that wants to hear about this, send me an e-mail response to this post...

Black Knight kicks provent-a-mites butt....LOL, of course that is IN MY HUMBLE OPINION and based on MY OWN OBSERVATIONS only....so Pro Products, no threatening lawsuits, please!

I have used both, I own both, the Black Knight was effective by using it one time only, while Provent-a-mite had to be used more then once, which means your reptiles are around those chemicals more often.

Also, price was a big factor. Black Knight is a far bigger bottle and cost me less. Since I haven't had mite problems in a long time (thanks, Black Knight) my can should last me a long time.

Its a shame they were forced to stop selling such a great product...And yes, for me thats reason enough to stop buying pro products, and I know many people who feel the same way.

Again, EVERYTHING IS IN MY HUMBLE OPINION ONLY!!!

I have used both products and from what i have seen, Prevent_a-nothing is just that. I had to use it 2 or 3 times to get rid of my mits and then within a month or so, the mites slowly came back.

With Black Knight i used it one time and all the mites were gone. I have been using it for about 4 months now(spraying it like 1 time a week over my collection) and have not seen a mite at all.

Black Knight RULES, Provent-a-Mite takes a alot and then does not seem to do the job. Everyone else might have different results, but this is what i saw and will continue to buy it(i do have a source)that has i think 20 cases...

So i have no idea what's going on with all this, but i wish you all luck with whatever you use... John

Hey...any chance you'd let me know where you're getting BKRK? I would love to buy a couple of cans. I'd be happy to buy them from you if you pick up a couple extra. Let me know, and thanks.....

I disagree with you! Provent a mite has worked just fine for me, fortunately I have not had a real outbreak of mites in YEARS, but on occasion I have had to treat new animals that I've purchased from people who must of had mites at their place. The times that I have used Provent a mite it has worked for me in 1 application, and the second application was just to be safe (meaning I DIDN"T see any mites by this time). I find it funny how people seem to all the sudden be experts just because they have a computer and a forum to chat on! I've been in this business for over 10 years and much of what I see here is incorrect, but I don't have the time to argue with all the novices out there, and I know ALOT of pros that agree with me on this. Maybe provent a mite didn't work for someone, perhaps they didn't take the time to call the company as I have and find out ALL the details of how to PROPERLY use the product!!!! In my opinion the product does work and their is no excuse for anyone to have mites in their collection. I guarantee that no animal that leaves my place has mites, and I intend to keep it that way! As for Black Knight , I've heard stories of people killing there snake because they used to much Black Knight . The fumes from Provent a mite are also toxic, if you read the can or call the company they will warn you about waiting for the fumes to pass before placing the snake back in it's cage! People should do their homework before they speak, just my 2 cent's worth. Anthony McCain-McCain's Reptiles. www.regiusmorphs.com

I have started using "reptile relief" and it works great. It might take a couple of treatments and it does need to contact the mites to do the trick but I have never had a reinfestation on snake I have used it with. Before that came around, I used a can of Eliminator roach spray that I bought from Kmart. It had the exact same ingredients as provent a mite and was 3.99 for a big can. I tested it on a couple of newly purchases corns, it knocked the mites out instantly and the corns have produced babies for me for the last 3 years. I have also used it on several other snakes and have had no problems. The problem is, I can't find that any more either. I would use that on the enclosures, and the reptile relief on the snakes. I'm not advocating going to your local hardware store and picking up just any roach killer off the shelf. Many of them use Peritherins (sp) but they also have other active ingredients listed. I just found one with the exact same ingredients and used it.
