Maybe this will help the girl with the cabinet question?
Bud and I are moving to a place where he won't be able to roam around when I'm not home, so his current cage just won't cut it. I bought this other cage as a sunning cage and plan to use it when I move.
Now I know it falls short of the space requirements for an adult. But for anybody in a pinch, this is something that cost me less than $200 at PetSmart, that my boyfriend and I were able to set up in under an hour. It is inescapable for iguanas with a head that is appx. bigger than an inch in thickness at the biggest part, or I would say older than 2 years or so. There are lots of perches, and it is on wheels.
I do wish I had found this cage a long time ago, so anybody who's just gotten or rescued a subadult ig and is in a pinch might want to take a look at this. It's the link at the bottom, and it's the cage to the right with the curly headed girl wearing blue jeans and the purple perches. Now I don't know how big that kid is, but I am 23 years old and stand 5'4". As tall as that cage is next to the kid in the picture is how high it is to me. It is about half a foot taller than I am.
The only things I would recommend are put down non-skid bath mats on every perch, because they are quite slippery. Also, you might want to use different ramps. Only two are included, and they are less sturdy and more slick than I would like. But Bud can climb up the wire sides to get to where he wants to go, in the meantime. The other thing is that some of the small doors make it difficult to take the iguana out when he doesn't want to come out! So you might want to plan your basking shelves so they are near the bigger door.
The coolest part is that some of the perches have a hole in them for ferrets to climb through (there is no way an iguana will want to do that!) and Bud's food bowls, (which are plain white ceramic fruit cup bowls I bought at Target) fit PERFECTLY into these little holes! It's a pretty cool coincidence.
For the size he is now, which is about one foot of body and 1.5 feet of tail, I think it is OK, plus he gets roaming time every day. When I rescued Bud, I spent over 200 dollars on something he could easily escape, and that was extremely heavy and hard to set up. It was bigger, but in my opinion not worth it.
I set this one up this weekend, to get him used to it before we move, and I am amazed at how well he is adjusting to it! He's not eating quite as much, but there is no bad attitute, he's pooping, and he's even going back into breeding colors! (He dropped out of season after the loss of some of his tail). His regrown tail is even turning a greeny orange shade!
Do you think he is bluffing and planning future misbehavior? I hope not.
If you put your iguana in a new cage, how long did it take before discontent started, if any?
Sorry for rambling on like this, just hoping this helps somebody, and I'm nervous about our move!
