new tank questions?

kerry04 May 12, 2004 03:13 PM

There is this guy selling his tank online for $300.It is a 75 gallon tank with a fulval filter and all the trimmings.
I just bought a Fluval 404 filter.WIll this be adequate for the tank? and what questions should I ask him about it?
It's for my two little hatchlings.
Another thing that concerns me is that he offered me two adult RES with it.I don't need anymore turtles, but I would feel really bad if I was taking their home and he released them into the wild or something.BUt there is no way I would ever put 4 turtles in a tank that size.I just don't have the time or resources to maintain that many tanks.
Any thoughts people?

And for the record, I am all for bipartisian coalitions, especially where my turtles are concerned.
SO can I be one of the cool people and have my questions answered too?

I'm sorry. I hope someone helps you with your questions. I think sometimes it's easy for questions to get overlooked in here.

I can try to help but I'm not one of the expert turtle people in here. I'm still a new turtle mama. If you use your new fluval and the one that is coming with the tank you should be all set. As for the guy setting the turtles free . . . I don't think he can do that. It's illegal to release pet turtles into the wild. You can get a new 75 gal tank at a pet store for around $130 and you can get a fluval 404 at Big Als online for only $100 so maybe you don't even have to get the tank from this guy and have to worry about his turtles. The turtles can also be put up for adoption. I think you can find information about doing that on this site somewhere. I hope I helped.

Just a little Rush humor for you there Kerry04, all in good fun of course an no hard feelings intended as im no where near the right lol. In all seriousness about your questons though... As for the filter it would depend as to how many gallons its rated for which I have no clue personally. As for the two newly aquired turtles in the package deal, there are a few things you could do. First off, if it is feasible for you to care for them that would be great, but I think that could possibly not be an option by your post. You could sell them, or better yet, put them up for adoption by placing ads in various places asking people to provide a picture and information on how they intend o care for the turtles properly. Letting the turtles free should not be an option. It could have detrimental effects on the turtles by being exposed to elements they were not previously exposed to in captivity such as environmental factors and parasites, as well as predators. There are many, many, reasons besides the ones mentioned to discourage releasing. I'm sure you want what's best for the turtles which is obvious by your post. Good luck if you need a few links to adoption sites feel free to ask!
