more on MA laws.....for all those who answered....

TenorGoddess May 12, 2004 04:45 PM

Greetings again everyone!

Thanks to all who responded (although I didn't appreciate the attacks on one another, we aren't 2 anymore after all).

Like Kara stated, I definitely do NOT wish to tangle with MA laws. If they have issues with retics, then obviously I don't need to be keeping any while I'm up there until they decide it's time to change their laws (or until we move).

I am an educator, rescuer and rehabilitator for many exotics (reptiles, birds and small animals) and it would totally be against my own teachings, to illegally "hide" or conceal any animal. I regularly take my animals out to educate people on many issues from "what would be a great beginner pet snake/lizard for me?" to "what should I feed my new iguana?" so if I were to hide animals, what good would that do? Aside from that, again, I along with many others cannot state enough the damage it would do to the herp community if one gets out, injures another person (or what if it severely injured me and word got out how I was hurt?) or worse. I would also shudder to think that as an educator, I would see another educator illegally harboring animals and further endangering the community as a whole, as well as the laws would become even MORE strict for those who keep them legally, should something happen.
Would I be happier getting to live in an area where I could keep retics, well duh. Yes, I want to finally have my own real retics but I would rather have to wait the 4-6 years we are planning on staying in MA (at least) without my own retics, than breaking the law and living forever in fear that someone would find out I had them, get them confiscated and that would in turn make me fear what would become of my beloved scaley children. It's a terrible injustice to do that to an animal.

I am hoping that they do not have a problem with Burms as I really do not wish to ever get rid of mine. I'm hoping we can move to NH or some other border-type state that doens't have a prob. with them. I'll just have to see what's going on. I plan on visiting MA for a week in early June to visit some people as well as hunt around with Vic for a place to live.
For now, his job is in Welsley (spelling?) and he wants to live closer without commuting (highly understandable) but hopefully we can find a place that will give him that and let me at LEAST keep my burms. I can always admire the retics of everyone else until we move into an area where I can at last have my own. ;D

Will update everyone then!

Hugs to you all (sorry for the long response but hey, that's what I'm know for, hehe)

ok... listen there is no way MA fish and wildlfie will grant you a permit for a tic. Second, you probably wouldnt need to hide that considering if you put a garter snake in front of them theyll think its a baby king cobra. Take Karas advice move up towards the border in NH like near say Haverill which is in close proximity to a pretty cool place wink wink.

Secondly tell your significant other no matter where you live in MA your commute sucks 95,495,128,Rt1,93 its all one big confusing circle

Heya, ;D

Yeah I know that since there is an outright ban on retics, I will NOT get a permit. I mean that I'll have to get a permit for my water monitor (which was what I think I said, who knows though).

There are apparently a lot of "cool places" wink wink nudge nudge, up north. hehe ;D

Hugs and thanks!

I may be answering this too late, but if you are still in MA, drop me a note, meet my collection, and get a snake's eye view of the state. -Perseus
