50 Reasons Why

ZeroX May 12, 2004 06:09 PM

I am having a hard time convincing my parents that I NEED a leopard gecko to survive! So I thought if I found 50 reasons why a leopard gecko is the pet for me, my parents would give up and let me have one.

I only have one reason so far:

1. They're easy to care for.

Can you add to this list? Will you be the person with the 50th reason? Please post all of the reasons why a leopard gecko is a good pet! It would really help! Thanks in advance,

~ZeroX

2)They have great personalities.
3)They rarely bite, if at all!
4)They barely smell, unless their cage isnt cleaned
5)They use their own "bathroom"!
6)They're quiet and dont make noises to keep you up at night.
7)They dont require much space
8)They're beautiful!
9)Their food bill is fairly cheap (especially for one)

My brain is dead for now. Ill post more if I think of anything, lol

Omigod! Thank you so much!

I'm positive that I now have 50 or over (more additions are welcome, of course) I didn't actually think there could be 50 reasons. THANKS!

My dad said on Sunday of last week that if I kept my room and the kitchen clean for a month I could get a leopard gecko! I mentioned to him today, just now, that I had been cleaning for three days. (Monumental for me - I'm a messy slob) I am making up a chart of money that I have saved up thus far. I only have $124. Plus I have to buy a fridge to keep my mealworms in so they won't breed so that is also a big investment.

Anyway, getting off topic. My dad said that he would seriously consider getting me a gecko if I showed him my chart at the end of the week.

It goes like this:

Date

5-12

Room

*

Kitchen

*

* = clean

I know I'm rambling. Sorry. But thanks again for helping me with 50 reasons why. If I get my gecko, I'll be sure to post pics!

31. vitamin and mineral supplements are available at most pet stores
32. everyone here love leos and are willing to help out
33. a simple ziplock container can serve as a humid hide
34. flooring can be papertowels, tile, slate (don't want to get into a debate about sand LOL)
35. mealworms (and other worms) don't make noise and don't smell like crickets do although i feed both.
36. can be trained to eat from a bowl
37. they each have their own distinct personality
38. they don't pee on the carpet LOL
39. mom and dad don't have to worry about it running around the house and getting underfoot (secure screen top is good)
40. it will bring you much happiness

The only down side about these guys is that they are addictive, i started out with one and now i have 12 plus 3 crested geckos and 2 aft's. hehehe. Having just one is cool in that you can spend time with it moreso than 12 of them hehehe....

I read all of the suggestions so far and there's an area that I feel needs a little bit more exploration.

Studies have shown that petting a dog or cat is good for your heart and health. Leos are just as if not more theraputic.

A Their slow and deliberate movements are relaxing to watch. Just like fish, leos are stress-reducing pets.

B Leos seem to enjoy and crave our attention, which gives us a sense of being needed. They will climb out on your hand and happily sit on our shoulder for hours, craving our contact like a cat or dog, with a lot less maintenance and immediate or demanding needs.

C Due to the online forums/communities where other leopard gecko lovers cohabitate, participating gives one a sense of belongingness; a need all people must fulfill. This is a possitive outlet for expression.
