reproducable traits...............

jyohe May 12, 2004 07:14 PM

ok.......I work alot at work and then at snakes .....then mice..then the grass grows and needs cut every 4 days......so I missed alot of worthless crap reading below......

anyways.........

the words """HAS IT BEEN PROVEN"""

.....well....every trait is genetic and reproducable.......

every one...

stripes that aren't genetic must have been to be born.....pattern losses......black or brown........(I have NO black balls..they are all browns...)..........pattern of all sorts of intensity.....alot of spots...no spots........(aliens).....heavy lightening of the centers of the dark patterns......clutch size to an extent.......animal size........

it's all genetic..........

yet it may or may not be predictable.........

.........get it.......

black backs are not predictable as afr as I have ever seen......
(I see clutches posted in here from some of the best breeders in the north american continent (Can. too get it).......and they are all just sort of black backed......

anyways........

don't believe everything is genetic.?......

the next time you see an ugly man or woman....and thier kid looks just like them.....almost exactly.......?......do you ask yourself?...was the father/mother (opposite of what you see)....were they genetically HET for ugly?...het for the exact same face as they married?.......

yes this works with pretty people too.......but in general...as animals....humans are ugly.........LOL..think about it....?...can you make a coat out of humans?......????.....and we make worse wall mounts........

......get it yet?......people with big ears have kids with big ears at times.......long chins.....no chin.....big or pointy noses.......baldness is a little different(genetically)......

every trait can reproduce in one generation or more......

.........so yes...all stripes are genetic......
all black backs are genetic.........
all heavy patterned ball are genetic........
all hlaf pattenless balls are genetic.........

etc etc etc...........

..........anyway..........

Hi Chad...how are the balls?..........(hi all Y'all too).....

yes....all.....balls started slamming food..not all but most.....yes I feed alot of them one large mouse every other day alot.............

of course....the better balls are still stupid.......

up to clutch 3.....10---8---10----alot more to come.......getting closer to 400 eggs boys and girls.......so........

have fun..........

Jeffrey Yohe.

...........genetically short.....chunky in the middle.........south german chin(along with Irish chin)........Irish nose(added to German)........and the attitude aquired over years and years of dealing with humans.......and god they suck....LOL.......
.
.
......by the way....what color or morph would a lavender be in balls??????????? ruby eyes and hypo..along with anery traits too (they make pink snows).......

Most of the time I think that is true, or at least I think that genetics plays a big part in patterning/color. I don't believe that the exact pattern, etc is though. Rememeber the cloned kitten a couple years ago? Exact same genetic structure, completely different pattern. Outside influences could have affected it, and chance likely played a part in what genes got turned on and off in what area. I guess this would be more relavent to things like some black-backs, reduced pattern snakes, etc that don't prove out easily because they are either caused by multiple genes or maybe they aren't genetic. Who knows? I guess someone could clone some snakes and find out how much of the pattern is directly decided by genes. Gee, sounds like thesis material!

RandyRemington May 13, 2004 12:20 PM

It would be easier (than cloning) just to test the sheds of twins to identify genetically identical ones and see how different their patterns are.

While I agree that most things are probably genetic, I think you might find a lot of chance variation in the patterns of "normal" genetically identical twin snakes. I’ve got a pair of twin sheds saved if anyone wants them. Unfortunately this was before I could afford a good digital camera so I don't have the best pics showing the differences in their patterns (but maybe the sheds would show it). Supposedly you might be able to determine if twins are identical or not buy the way they are attached to the yolk but I waited for them to come out on their own.

apeilia May 13, 2004 02:36 PM

about the cloning part. I guess as long as you could tell the difference between identical and fraternal twins, this would also help to show how much of the pattern is genetic.

RandyRemington May 13, 2004 03:48 PM

Actually we probably aren't that far off from cloning snakes. I guess the big obstacles would be that we don't know that much about their reproductive systems and no one probably cares to put the work and money in to figure out how and if we can do it.

You can already get your prize bull cloned.

Snakes are good, and it's all worthless crap reading & slamming, but nothing better to do here...LOL..

Good post, I'm sure one of these "expert" Ball keepers will have a idiotic reply to your post.

Thats not totally true. Some colour or pattern morphs appear to be related to incubation procedures. Ringers for example, how do these come about?

Many of these animals are genetic, in the sense that it 'MUST' be genetic otherwise the snake wouldn't even look like that. However, there is a difference between 'genetic' and 'inheritable'. 'Non-genetic' stripes should be re-named as non-inheritable, because you breed one to another, you don't get stripes.

Also, there are lines of black backs which have proven simple recessive.

............how do you know non-enetic stripeds are not genetic?......

you would have to breed hundreds of them to each other to see what happens..........

they appear from all sorts of clutches obviously.....everyone has some...(not me yet).......

breeding 2 stripes and getting all odd patterned babies means they didn't reproduce that pattern that time....they may never......you never know......

temp and mold on eggs never did give me an odd or stiped pattern...and I have had eggs too cold....too hot...mothers too cold....too hot........moldy eggs hatch with at least 3 sub-specie(species) of fungus on them........

.......alot of the odd patterned snakes out there may be hybrids that people lie about?.....or didn't know about...they mixed species by mistake in a store or at a breeders or wholesalers.......we all know bigtime wholesalers take the time to house each snake individually....NOT!......

anyways..........

Bachman ....get that striped fatter......we going to do an experiment.........LOL.............

............

having fun yet?????............
