Shedding Problems

TWLogan May 12, 2004 07:25 PM

Ok. Here's the deal. 2 y/o female BRB that I've had since she was a baby. She was in "blue" approx 2 weeks ago. Then cleared up as per normal. But instead of shedding, she has been opaque ever since. Humidity 85-90%, temp 75-80 degs f. I've never had this type of shedding problem before. Have had the "humidity too low" shedding problem in the past. She's eating (fed her today) and acting as if nothing is wrong. But she looks terrible, almost like in "blue", but not that good, eyes cloudy, head's a little wrinkled, etc. Tank is clean, plenty of hides, water bowl big enough to soak,(although she hasn't), no mites, and NO CLUE!!! Any ideas or suggestions! Thanks in advance.

Logan,
. I am not sure what causes this problem. It could be that some sort of disease process is involved. There must be some sort of hormonal process that regulates the start of and continuation through the steps of the shedding cycle. I have seen problem sheds like you describe a couple of times and just waited and the snake eventually shed okay. Do keep the humidity up plenty high until it sheds. They usually go into another shed cycle much earlier than expected after a problem shed like this.
Good luck,
Jeff
