Dead adult gravid albino boa!!!!!!!!!!!!!

tommyparks May 12, 2004 08:39 PM

I had my beautiful adult albino in with my hypo male and my albino male for breeding purposes. Everything went great. Pre-ovulation and post-ovulation sheds were and everything. I'm not sure which one got her but it really didn't matter LOL. The other day i went in to look at her and she was having really strong contractions. She was still about a month out from dropping babies. I didn't think too much about it. The next morning i went in to check on her and she was stone cold dead! She died with her mouth open and a little bit of blood in her mouth. Any suggestions on what happened???? I have her in the freezer and will open her up this weekend to take a look inside and see if there is any thing i can see that went wrong.
Also i am just wondering if i am wrong for wanting to skin her. She is beautiful!!!

Sorry to hear your lose. I'm one of many who can sympathize with you on this issue. The last two seasons I have lost gravid feamales in the exact same mannor you have described with your girl. Last year it was right before her due date and she had 50 babies in a hypo litter, this year it was another larger girl 50 lbs and she died exactly the same way yours did. But it occured directly after her huge ovulation. There are numerous reasons that this can and often does happen, however it simply isn't publicized by many. Jeff Ronnie put it best in saying something to the tune of "if you want to ensure your females health for life, never breed her!" an I can attest to that. Sorry for your loss, and hopefully nothing but good things in the future.

Best,
Justin Higgs
