Dome lamps?

Tarzana May 12, 2004 09:02 PM

I was wondering if anyone knows of a good UVB bulb that can fit into a dome lamp. I hear good things about the repti sun 5.0 but i dont want a long light like that, and would prefer a UVB bulb and a basking bulb both in dome lamps. Can they have those kind of bulbs safely put in them? Thanks for any direction

you want a mercury vapor bulb. there is a lot of info you need to know about these before you buy. A few things to keep in mind:
they must be more than 12" away in most cases.
self ballasted bulbs may not last as long as externally ballasted bulbs.
with new MVB lights you may need to use calcium without D3.
MVB can be expensive compared to florescent
some bulbs can last over a year compared to 6 months for florescents
