Cage question

I assume you 'all have seen the large, cheap plastic storage containers. You can buy a 40 gallon container for a few bucks. I though about housing my cribos in a system built with maybe 3 or even 6 of these connected with wide PVC pipe "tunnels"

My thinking is that the different compartments could be easily controlled for heat (with heating pads), light (with covers, or buy the opaque containers) and humidity (with ventilation holes, misting).

The idea is that the snakes would have options and with good record keeping we could learn a lot about environment preferences. Six conatiners connected by, lets say, 6 inch diameter PVC pipe with heat pads would be less than $100. I'm thinking of stacking 3 on top of each other and along side the connected 3.

At the bottom (on heating pads) you could have a warm, dark, humid container and next to it a warm dark, dryer one, for example. The next layer up you could have a less warm, dark humid container next to a less warm, dark, less humid one, etc.

Is it even worthwhile to offer all these options? Maybe we know enough about micro-climate preferences already?

Joe

i've done that before also and it works pretty well.......you can really see your animals mooove too when they feel like it and it's great exercise for them as well. but i switched to a long 3 tier system now [less space taken] that has hatches i can open or close depending. in the winter, i found that by heating the bottom tier only w/ a 60 watt bulb, the warmth rises slowly throughout the morning till it reaches 76/78* after a couple hours in each box.......i don't use any heat may thru september here as it's very warm those months and ambient air temp suffices. good luck w/ it and have fun!..........
