Found a turtle in middle of road help please

newsnakemom May 13, 2004 09:38 AM

I live in Texas (Fort Worth Area). I found a turtle yesterday (right in the middle of the road about to get run over), and I have been looking at pictures, and I think he is a mud turtle. As of now, we have him outside in a cage type thing, with a few rocks and some water. Last night I put some lettuce in the cage with him, and I think some of it is gone this morning. If we want to keep this turtle, how do we go about housing him and feeding him? I would prefer to keep him outside. I have two snakes already in aquariums in the house, and really dont have room for another aquarium.
Thanks in advance for your help

OK, I'm just reading this now, but I'll try to help you. Is it a baby or an adult?? You probably want to put it in a 30 gallon tank. Keep in mind, these guys are bottom walkers, so make sure it's not too deep. Put some rocks in there and plants and stuff. You can feed it commercial turtle food right now. I personally like the ones from Nutrafin. Get it a UVB and a basking light. Go to Austins turtle page for more info. Good luck!!!
