a little O/T...but does anyone know how to kill a gecko? sounds bad...but read, lol

thegeckobarn May 13, 2004 11:51 AM

My sister has a med. gecko that keeps laying eggs in her alarm system, and it triggers it to go off when it moves around, lol.
So she calls me asking "how do I kill this gecko??" And I have no idea, lol

My poor sister, anyone have any idea how to get it to go away? Id rather not kill it...but if thats the only way.

I would post this in the other gecko forum, but seeing how dead it is..it probably wouldnt get answered.

Could you refresh my memory on your, or more so your sisters location? I'm assuming this isn't a captive bred gecko right?

Instead of killing it is there any way to block off the alarm system so it can't get in there? (put a screen over it or something?)

Im in San Antonio, Texas...and its a wild gecko.

And here's her Quote about blocking it off

"nope. circuit board sits in front of the hole into the wall and I can't get behind the circuit board."

So thats out of the question

I don't know how she would go about catching and or killing the gecko. sorry.

I will say that to have wild geckos in the house would be cool!!! Being up in Canada the most i get in the house are bugs.....large spiders and the occational wasp. Oh and toads. We have a resident one in our garage....it used to sit just outside our dogs range and would drive him nuts hehehe

Use some MOTH Balls. They will keep it out of there.

lisa_cristin May 13, 2004 01:30 PM

Could she catch it? I know they are very fast little buggers. When me and my sister where in Hawaii we used to catch them, so it can be done (if they are relatively the same species). I'm assuming that she has seen it.

thegeckobarn May 13, 2004 01:42 PM

yes, she's seen it, and the eggs...but she cant get to it. They are really fast, and she'd probably only catch the tail anyway.

Chad, why do you suggest moth balls? Do they not like the smell? Ive heard of people using mothballs to keep dogs and cats from doing their business in their yards, so maybe alot of animals hate the smell.

I dunno it's just strange because geckos are the best, mine are like best friends to me, I can't imagine intentionally trying to kill one. Is there no way just to go in and catch him or close the area up?

I know, I doubt she'd want to shut it off for a gecko...she's not the biggest fan of lizards.
She has 2 HUGE rottweilers...do you think she needs an alarm system, hehe.
But no, I dont think she'd shut it off. I think im gonna let her know about the mothballs...I hope it works

Btw...im glad you didnt call ME sick...if anything, id like to keep it alive..but its NOT my choice.

By the way, is it possible to simply disable the alarm for awhile? or is this too risky, what city/area is the place in?

I found the following website that might help...
http://www.tipsofallsorts.com/liz.html
I like the idea of tape to trap the gecko and them release it far away. They also say something about repelents, but don't give any details.

misswindom May 14, 2004 08:19 AM

hhehe.. it says to paste the tape in there.. But it'd be easier and cleaner to just buy double-sided tape. Sounds like a good idea, though.. hmm...

I wonder if I could catch myself some Anoles that way. I'm constantly seeing them run along the side of my house!
