Does anyone feed roaches? Are they safe?

Are roaches safe for cresties? What would be the best species to feed? I hate crix and mealies, and roaches just seem easy to keep and breed. What does everyone else feed as a alternative to CGD or crix/mealies?

I am trying out small silkworms with my crested gecko. He seems to like them.

I feed my cresties juvenile lobster roaches as their staple diet. They love them, and roaches are so much more convenient than crickets...
