Keeping Beardie Outside

uncg2005 May 13, 2004 01:26 PM

What i wanted to see is what people thought of using the all mesh cages they sell for chameleons as an outdoor pen for beardies. I figure the mesh would keep most insects out given that draco's motto is eat it if it moves and there are enough bugs around my house i don't care to find out the hard way if they're edible

Sure you could use a repatarium type mesh cage for sunning the dragons. I bought a few this year for the adults & babies to get a few hours outside on the nice days this spring and summer. So far they love the time outside. Just make sure you monitor temps in the cages like you would inside, and make sure it is safe to put them out. Always give them shaded areas so they can thermoregulate normally and have the option to get out of the sun. I wouldn't leave them unatended outside for any length of time as weather changes, and prey animals if determined enough will get to them.
