Question about feeding WTF's

mom2autumnnreign May 13, 2004 03:41 PM

Ok, My question is....anyone feed their wtf's earthworms??? or mealworms???? I'm trying to find something besides crickets to feed them....I HATE crickets...I have to feed them to my leo....but if i decide to get a frog I'd rather not have to deal w/ them.....My other question was how social are wtf's??? I've read thay are very handlable and they can even reconize their keepers is this true?????

I can feed them earth worms and meal worms but with the earth worms I think they would just dig in to the substrate if the frog does not find it. Also I don't think too many types of frogs are social most like just being by their selfs plus if you put two in one cage it can cause stress for one of the frogs to feel like it food might be eaten. Yes you can hold them just not too often since it can cause stress and wash your hands before you go to pick it up but don't use soap its bad for the frogs skin.

I have fed mine Wax worms on occasion. They ate them, but did not eat as agressively as they do with crickets.
I do handle mine but not to frequently.
Mine come out to the front and look to the top of the tank when they see me approach the tank(around feeding time)

My opinion is if you can't deal with crickets your not going to be able to keep a WTF, alive anyway. If you dont like touching the crickets just put a toilet paper roll inside what your keeping the crikets in. And when your ready to feed some just pick up the tube and shake the crickets out.

I have 5 WTF's, and personally, I have always found it much better to just stick the whole bag of crickets right in the tank. I buy them 50 crickets about every 5 days and I just put them right in and they gobble up as much as they want and then there are a few left over the next few days for them to eat if they want to.
I hate handling crickets too...uuugghhh...
