Need an opinion on Red Eyes, Habitat and eating

fourtreefrogs May 13, 2004 06:13 PM

Last month I purchased 4 Red eyed tree frogs. All 4 were housed in a very small 10 gallon aquarium for 6 months. I have a 70 gallon set up with lots of plants, vines,....etc..temps and humidity is near perfect. HOWEVER...here is what I would like some feedback on. I have literally stayed up all night (under the red nightlight and watched them eat/hunt)...and this is what happens...They see a cricket...they move to a spot to where the cricket is..and they wait....and they wait...and wait...finally after about 1/2 and hour they just go back to sleep.. this especially happens with the little baby.(smallest one) Is it that the encloser that I have them in is too big and now they actually have to HUNT for their food?? rather than being in a 10 gal and wait for it? How easily do Red Eyed TF's adapt to much larger surroundings? Any suggestions or thoughts or ideas are greatly apprieciated...
THanks ahead of time

Hi there fourtreefrogs. I am just curious. How are your Redeye tree frogs doing? Are they surviving? I have 3 Redeyes to and I experience the same behavior with them. So far mine are still alive and they look fat so I guess they're okay, but I rarely see them eat. Once in a while I will hear one or two call but thats it. They spend most of their time sleeping on the side of the glass or under a leaf. I just have mine about three weeks now. All mine are adults, for the life of me, I can't keep the froglets alive. I had like six of them and they all died on me.
