Nice pictures, Tim. That's an interesting snake. The lateral light lines on scales 2,3, and 4 are intriguing. It's a pretty wide line, but the location is consistant with butleri. Thanks for the pics.

I met Dr. Burghart last weekend at the Detroit Zoo. We exchanged some info and I got to see the reptile and amphibian collections. He found a butleri at Shiawassee Nat. Wildlife Refuge. I stopped there on the way home, but didn't have any luck on butleri. Just saw a couple Easterns. I'll try again later in the year.

PS: Heading to the Western U.P. today.

What the heck you doing in the western UP? Can't be herping yet can it?

Could you shoot me an email? I'd like to talk to you about Michigan butleri. I know you have some experience with them and I'd like to compare notes.

I went to the Wisconsin River today. Still trying hard to find some of the local bullsnakes. No luck, but I saw an enormous softshell. It was the size of an adult snapper. I couldn't believe it. I was too slow with my camera though.
