RE Gecko not eating

snakefamily May 13, 2004 08:59 PM

Lulu went to the vet today who agreed he is looking a little skinny. didn't know why and we had no fresh feces to bring but we'll still try. Gave us some Metronidazole (Flagyl) which she said will kill parasites which she suspects he has and might also increase his appetite. He took it no problem but turned his nose up at a mealwom with its head cut off.

Does anyone feed their geckos silkworms and any suggestions of where to get them besides on line? I've tried the 2 local pet stores that have worms but neither carries them. I might try one other one a little further away that does more reptile stuff.

When I first posted my question about suggestions I was referred to a site that discussed ways to get leos to eat. They suggested cutting the head off and letting them smell the inards as a way to encourage them to eat. No luck on our part. By the way we were told to decrease the cage temp a little!

Your Lulu sounds like my Snape. He is also not eating right now. Mine went to the vet Tuesday who also put him on antibiotics just in case. But we don't know why he's not eating. In this case the vet says to wait for the antibiotics to kick in and increase the temp in the cage, which I did by adding an under the tank heater. In the meantime though we are syringe feeding him baby food until he decides he wants mealworms. Good luck with your little one, sounds as though they can go on quite a hunger strike when they want too.
