Central American Banded Gecko won't eat!

cutiepie May 14, 2004 10:14 AM

I've had my "Ozzy" for less than a year. His cagemate, Cheech, died of liver failure and I had treated both of them for parasites (roundworms and strongyloid worms to be exact). Cheech died a month ago, and Ozzy was still eating great then. His tail is super fat and he's been acting normal and is very strong. The problem is, he hasn't been eating since last week. I gave him his last dose of the medicine last week, and he started shedding. I thought that maybe it was the shedding that caused him to lose his appetite, since he has done this many times before, but he hasn't eaten since then. He looks, acts, and seems fine, but I can't tell. I'm going to be bringing him to the vets soon to get him checked out for parasites and the like, but I wanted a first opinion before I get started. His temps have been increasing drastically these past couple of weeks, as it's been really hot and his lights are off, but his cage is in the 90's, when it was usually in the lower 80's before. Could the sudden heat get rid of his appetite?

Oh, and I almost forgot. He is a little less than a year old and is sexually mature now. He had been trying to mate with Cheech before to no avail, as she wasn't interested at the time.

He has repticarpet in his tank and every so often he does have a small bowel movement, but it only contains the white urate.

Not much, but its a start. He's been shedding like crazy these past few weeks, shedding twice in a week or so. He's been going after his worms though, especially the waxworms.
