Help!!! injured five- lined skink

sarahruss May 14, 2004 11:26 AM

Hi, My cat caught a skink. I found her just in time. The lizard was in bad condition, an intestine was hanging out of a cut in his/her side. I pushed the intestine back in with tweezers and put peroxide on the cuts. Then I set up a terrarium with dirt, leaves, branches and a small water dish. Is this o.k.? What else should I do? I don't have a spare heat lamp right now, but I live in N.C. and it's in the 80s here. Will he be O.k.? His/her tank is 80 right now.
Thanks,
Sarah

err....paper towels would have been better than dirt. You dont want anything getting into the cuts. Unfortunately, though, the damage may have been too bad and he may end up with a systemic infection. Good luck anyway...you should be commended for helping the poor baby.

Your post leads me to believe you are keepoing this lizard in a cage outside? Sorry I can not help with the injorys but I can lend a piece of helpfull advice. Sence during the summer I keep upwards of 20 snakes and lizards at any given time I tryed an outdore set up this year and so far have had sad fatal results. My set up was in the shade all day on my deck and still it got to hot. I to live in N. California neer Sac. I would recomend keeping it indores. I dont believe a heat light will become a factor for the next week or so but after that you will want to pick one up. The only other suggestion I can give is going to a qualified vet. Hope I helped a little let us know how it turns out
