HabbaMist

dragonbirds May 14, 2004 02:12 PM

I purchased a HabbaMist last week and tried it and I am absolutly and totally disappointed. It nothing more than a glorified dripper!
Has anyone used the Mr. Moisture?
I have 1 enclosure (100gal Reptarium) in my home so I don't need anything really powerful, but I would like something that actually puts out a mist. This is my enclosure. I just added a few more plants so it's alot more covered inside.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Are you sure you have the nozzle adjusted correctly? It takes some fine-tuning. Mine puts out a nice mist that covers about 18 square inches or so.

I was going to post inquiring about misting systems. I know there have been threads on this subject int he past (and I will check them out) but interested in opinions.

I just purchased a small ultrsonic/ ionic humidifier on ebay that works very well. It puts out a great mist on high, and you can use the ionic air thing independently of the humidifier. If you have any questions about it, just ask -or if you want to check it out on ebay type a search for ultrasonic humidifiers and find the one that is also ionic for about $35.00 made by neotec.

My Habba Mist works great. I even added an extra tube and nozzle, so I could cover the entire area in the cage, and it drives them both just fine.

The Habba Mist puts out a fine "spray", not really a mist. But it creates drops of water all over the plants, which is the point, I think. It's NOT a humidifier, which puts our more like a "fog" or water vapor. The Habba Mist basically does what a hand sprayer does when set to the finest spray setting.

My only complaint is that the water resevior only holds 28 oz., which means I have to refill it every two days or so. I have it set to spray for 45 seconds every three hours. My humidity level is always at about 65-70%, and when it sprays it leaves plenty of water on the plants for "lapping"!

For $40, I'm plenty satisfied.

I would like to get one for my chameleons, but I have 2 cages to cover. I am mainy looking for something to create water drops to drink, and save me from spraying all day. Would this mister work or is there something else I could try? And is it hard to set up?

It's very easy to set up. Just take it out of the box, fill it up and plug it in. The only thing you have to adjust is the nozzle (water flow) to achieve a fine spray.

I can run two nozzles with one unit with no problems. I just got a little T-splitter for aquarium tube to split the line.

I use a 2 1/2 gallon hand sprayer (like you use in the garden), I cut the nozzle off the plastic wand, purhased some clear vinyl hose attached it to the sprayers wand, and got some nozzles from home depot (can get exact name if you need it, but have a variety) I just pump the sprayer up, hold down handle and spray 7 cages at 1 time, or in your case 1 big one. I am in the process of making a automatic one and will let you know how it turns out. Hope this helps..

I made the same thing the post before me is talking about and it works awsome. The only difference between what they described and mine is I put a garden/lawn timer in line to automatically control the spray times. About $75 total but very much worth it.

I was going to post this as a new topic, but it might do well here. I probably still might, so people won't spend a lot of cash on a Mr. Moisture or something. Especially new cham keepers.

ANYWAY! lol

Here goes: I was in PetSmart getting stuff for my rats a couple weeks ago. I couldn't help but check out the "herp" section. I happened to come across a tiny little mister called the "tropical mist" by Misty Mate. It was only seventeen bucks so I thought what the hell.

I took it home and it worked ridiculously well. I was actually very suprised. It's basically a little 10 oz. jug that you fill with water. It has a pump on top, and you pump it to build pressure, like a standard garden sprayer. Attached to the jug is a black rubber hose with an "on/off" valve and a copper head at the very end. Turn the little guy on and it puts out a very fine mist that can cover a pretty large area for its size. 15 - 20 pumps can make it go about 4-5 minutes. I think it's got a total of 7 minutes of spray time.

Before I used to use hand spray bottles that Dr. Gonzo (my veiled) hated to get sprayed with, for one reason or another. He run as fast as he could out of the way, usually disappearing to the lower branches. However, the VERY first time I used it, I warmed up some of his drinking water, put it in there and let 'er rip. He ran at first, but came right back and just rested in the mist. He kept getting closer and closer to it until he was literally 3 inches away from the hose. I was stunned, cuz usually he's all pissy when he gets wet. It was cute as hell. Now he's in love with the thing.

However, as well as the Tropical Mist worked, I was a little discouraged by the small 10 oz capacity. All though it works friggin great, I realized I'm building a bigger cage, so I need something that lasts a little longer. So I went to mistymate.com and checked them out. They have some cool products, by the way. Anyway, I clicked on "personal cooling" and found their 24 oz. Personal Cooler and just got it a while ago. It's only 30-something on their website. Pretty cheap, if you ask me. No batteries, no noisy motors, no crazy price tag. Works just like the littler one.

It works like a charm, and I haven't found, nor can I even think of, a better way to get the same quality of a mister for this price. I dig it a helluva lot. It's really awesome.

I definitely recommend them. The 24 oz. "Personal Cooler" is great. But for beginning cham owners, or people who need a great way to mist their chameleons for really cheap, go for the little "Tropical mist" it's really well worth it too. I use both of them.

a zillion times better than the Habba Mist. I've seen one in action and it sucks. My friend bought one not that long ago actually for his herps. I couldn't believe I was gonna buy one.

(sorry for the long post)
