Chicken mash /feed as criket gutload

zag May 14, 2004 03:27 PM

Has anyone ever heard of using chicken feed as a gutload. I read a while back about this being the same thing as over-priced Fluker's gutload on the bearded dragon forum. If anyone uses this method or knows what type of chicken mash to use, please let me know.

It can be part of the gutload, but you need to be careful what type you get. Most chicken feed has antibiotics and/or growth hormones added. You may have to search for "gamebird" feed that has no additives like that. Also be careful how much preformed vitamin A is in it. You can easily overdo it. Check out the gutload recipe on this site to compare ingredients and figure out what you need to add to the feed.

I also have Reptayls gutload recipe(Morgana and Yosemite at http://groups.msn.com/REPTAYLSChameleons/_whatsnew.msnw)
if you want it. Email me directly. It's for massive amounts and you may not have access to all of the ingrediantes but you can adjust and replace (I had to)

another thing to watch out for when using a commercial food like chicken feed is the amount of calcium...too much calcium will kill your crickets quickly.
