I have an idea for a realistic looking background

What if we take chicken wire mesh like stuff and bend and shape it to fit the cage then put a piece of plexi glass over it then heat the plexi up with a torch or something and it will form to the chicken mesh? It would be water proof unless you put a hole in it and then you could just melt another piece over it. I will try it later on. E-mail me with your ideas adamwalton@charter.net

One slight problem with your idea. When you heat plexiglass it shrinks in a slightly uncontrollable way. One section may shrink too much and others not enough. The 4"x4" piece you start with could end up as a 3.5"x3" or something... I used a torch to bend some plexiglass for a turtle ledge, and I cut it first to the size I needed, and heated it up to bend it, and the places it heated up were too small to use so I had to scrap the idea. If anyone remembers Shrinky Dinks as a kid, its the same concept, heat up plastic and it will shrink a certain percentage.

Now what you could do is get a piece larger than what you want, bend it and form it to shape, then cut the plexiglass square or rectangular and you are done...

Thanks! I thought about it after I posted and I may go ahead and do a test piece and see what happens then do what you said. I'll post pics in this forum after I do it.

Might wanna try getting small mesh wire and brushing a fiberglass resin on it until it hardens enough to put whatever you want on it. It's pretty easy to make whatever shape you want.
