New Gecko..New Questions

terrible_one May 14, 2004 06:07 PM

Ok guys so I know theres been a lot of these posts latley..but I got my Gecko yesterday and I need to know a few things..I am starting to get paranoid!! lol

-Ok well first of all I have had it a little more then 24 hours and ALL day today its been in its hot side hide (The one with the uth under it) Is this ok????

- The temp is cool end is around 75 and stays around that even at night...and the Temp in warm end is only about 80, but I do not have the thermeter over the UTH so I imagine its hotter in the hide..Is this ok??

-Last night he ate 4 mealworms..Tonight I am gonna try to feed again..how do u feed a cricket just put it in there and he will get it? Won't it hop around like crazy?

-When can I handle him..take him to clean cage and fell uth etc...

-I have a UV bulb on during the day but i turned it off beacuase it really gave off no heat and I don't thk he likes it..

Ok guys any suggestions or corrections please help!! I really want my Leo to last real long..I no the temp on warm side has to be hotter any ideas to get it up are apprecited.

P.S. I am using paper towels as substare and the UTH is direncty under the large hide i got for him (under the tank of course LOL)

well your lucky you got him to eat within the first 24 hrs. my guys took three days to eat anything. drop one cricket in at a time untill you see how interested he is in them. also for handling i have had osiris for almost 2 months and he is still scared of me. after the first week start putting your hand in the middle of the tank for a few minutes everyday moving closer each few days. also he is probably gong to the cool side when your not around. osiris seemed to stay on the hot side for days then one night when i woke up i noticed him over on the cool side so you shouldn't worry too much.

You should really get the hot end up to about 90. I do this with a red bulb (experiment with wattages, probably just need a 50watt) And make sure the heat pad isnt making the ground too hot, you need a rheostat (set to low-medium). Good Luck
