What is the easiest way to install a nice door?

Zeb Jun 16, 2003 11:08 PM

Hello...

I've decided I'd like to build my Giant Day gecko a home, so I can have my aquarium back.

I plan on making it water-treated plywood on the bottom, back, and sides. The top will just be screening to allow a dripper, bulb, and UV lighting...

....but what should I do about the door? I was thinking Home Depot could maybe cut me a piece of acrylic, and I could screw in a handle and hinges so it would swing open. Would that work? ( actually, I would need something better to keep it shut...magnet? )

Any suggestions would be great, as I'm quite mechanically challeneged.

Thank you..
-Zeb

Why don't you try sliding panels? The tracks are relatively cheap, and you can use acrylic (or glass) and you don't have to worry about clearance in front for a swinging door, or stress on the hinges (always a prob. keeping hinges on acrylic) and it solves your locking problem. There's a lot of discussion on this topic in this forum.
