Luna is asleep in the hole....

lele May 14, 2004 06:53 PM

...back end in. i have no idea if she has actually laid anything yet. I know this has been asked before - do I just leave her in the cold moist soil? I can put a heater on in the room to raise the ambient temp. I have a small UTH that I could slide next to the pot or will she be OK? I am so glad that it is almost over

thanks for letting me obsess,
lele and soon-to-be-slim Luna

I don't know about the heat, but when one of my females laid some eggs a few weeks ago, she spent a night in her hole. The air temp was somehting like 67, so I assume it was the low 60's in the hole, in any case, she continued digging the next day and was quite fine. She actually spent about 5 hours covering the hole up (it was done after the first or second hour, too bad she didn't know).

good luck with her afterwards!!!

(lots of water and daily food for a week or so afterwards, just a reminder)

thanks for that! personal experience is what I am looking for. I can't wait until she begins eating again - I have a smorgasbord stockpile waiting for her!

Just you wait! That shmorgazborg will be gone in a flash, females eat like juvies after laying! I would feed her what you normally feed her, only every day (unless you were doing that before...) and remember to supplement about half of the insects for that week. Her appetite should calm down a bit after a week or two. My female laid 34 eggs as her second inftertile clutch. It was a good bonding experience for me and her, I had only had her about a month before she laid! She was, unlinke luna, VERY easy to have laying eggs. She didnt bother with all the containers I offered, she jsut used the 10" umbrella pot in at the bottom. It wasn't so fun to dig up though, I think I killed the plant in the process :|.

Hope everything is great with her afterwards!

How funny is that!?!? How many days did Luna wait from conception? My female veiled (Peanut) is going on 32 days today. I wish she'd freakin lay already. Does Luna have OBVIOUS gravid coloration? Peanut is slightly "tealer" (yes I know, welcome to the George W. school of grammar) , than normal, but barely enough to tell. If you didn't know her you'd think she looked normal. I wonder if the copulation was a failure. Maybe the male was shooting blanks, maybe she pulled away to early (she's no cuddler that's for sure-30 sec's was all she could take of it). Anyways, good luck with Luna.

AWWW! you hurt Ra's feelings...he said he's not shooting blanks it was peanut, she did not let him finish his buisness. He also said he wants to cuddle next time, not get bitten.

Luna is the one I told you has been acting gravid since december.

Hi Doug,

She was not bred and that it why this has been so baffling. She began showing receptive color, and not eating in December. After that she gained lots of weight but never layed. Her feeding had been sporadic ever since. At least if she'd been bred I would have had a clue as to what the heck was going on! LOL!

George W. school of grammar LOL!!

Good luck with Peanut!!
