wierd scales

rheenie May 14, 2004 07:31 PM

When I held Bourbon today I noticed her scales looked different. (she just shed two days ago) they looked almost dented. In the middle of almost every scale there is a little dip. and some of them look loose, like theyre going to pull off. Should I be worried or was this just a fluke that will fix itself next time she sheds? thanks for the help!!

I don't know that I see anything wrong with your snake. I've noticed that sometimes scales on my snakes seem dented. I'm thinking this may be natural, and appears to be more prevalent when the snake hasn't shed in a while. Skin/scale problems often occur when their environment is too wet, so you may want to ensure the enclosure is clean and dry. Other than that, I can't help you. By the way, I love the great colors on that snake. What morph is it?

thank you for the compliment. She's a sweetie and I've never had any problems with her, but I just wanted to make sure she was okay. She's my baby. I was told she's a common. but I dont know, mom got her for me from a pet store. and I love her, so I'm glad you think she'll be okay.

My sinaloan milk has some dented scales too, though I had heard it was caused by too much dryness. I live in the desert, and have a tricky time keeping his humidity up before his shed. Has it been proven which causes this (too moist or too dry)?
