is this an egg?

marpie May 14, 2004 08:35 PM

I found what looked like a yellow egg in my female saharans cage..This sounds stupid but is it possible for her to lay an egg when there is no male? It is yellow with some white on it kinda firm but mushy on the inside...does not look like her feces at all.
She seems ok...she ate today and was moving around good. any thoughts?
Thanks,
Marcie

It's possible for sure...but usually doesn't happen often. Just mae sure she's got some calcium in her diet in case she's got anymore eggs to pass. All reptiles usually will lay eggs at one point or another throughout ther lives with or without a male.

But if she is young still or not full grown then maybe it was something else...usually they have to be sexually mature before the eggs start coming along.

Chris,

Thanks for your reply. She has had 3 more eggs since the first..They are mostly yellow with some white. She has covered these eggs and has been hovering around them alot. Is there anything special I need to do for her?. She hasn't gone into her hide yet for the night..which is odd...she usually goes in as soon as the lights go out. Should I expect more? She had the three today and I havent taken them out yet..I feel bad since she seems to be protecting them..

Thank you,
Marcie

I've NOT dealt with eggs or a new mother liz, but I've read that you should offer her water to drink and make sure she gets extra calcium in her diet.
