Egg Bound 5 Lined-What should I do?

kfkester May 14, 2004 09:33 PM

I have a wc 5 lined skink that I think is egg bound. When my son and I first caught her, she was eating great, drinking and was very shy. Then a few weeks after we got her, she was wandering the cage looking to get out, and she didn't care if anyone was watching or not. I thought perhaps she was looking for somewhere to lay eggs etc. I think she laid one egg, but I see several bulges in her side, and she doesn't seem to be eating or drinking. Also, she is very lethargic and hang out on the basking spot constantly and her tail has gotten noticeably skinnier in the last week or so.

So, does this sound like syptoms of egg binding and what do you do to help her? Thank you very much for your help.

I don't know but my lizard died from being egg-bound. You can try taking her to the vet but I don't think there's much they can do. I would suggest keeping her warmer than usual.

If you want to save your pet take her to a good herp vet. They will "spay" her and dose her with antibiotics and things that will help her. ASAP... time is of the essense here im afraid. Call and EMERGENCY meeting with your vet if you have to since this is the weekend. VETS can save her.
