I think I'm noticing a teeny bit of a trend in this forum...
Some folks seem to prefer their ball python advice to be presented in a dry and humorless manner...
Some folks seem to enjoy a sprinkling of humor here and there...

Perhaps we "need" two forums...

"Pythons: Ball Forum - Dry and Humorless"
- and -
"Pythons: Ball Forum - Let's Have a Bit Of Fun While We're At It"

Personally, I just don't see it happening...
But how about an informal vote...

If you have no sense of humor and would prefer to see nothing but dry and boring ball python husbandry discussions in the threads, respond to this post with a post containing the word "Dry" in the Subject line...

If you are happy to see the occasional mirth-filled thread, respond to this post with a post containing the word "Fun" in the Subject line...

I doubt that Kingsnake will choose to split the forum (personally, I wouldn't)...
But, I think it will be somewhat informative...

Perhaps any thread that is a fun-filled thread should begin with the following words...

"Caution: This thread may contain some humor that may or may not be offensive to those with varying tolerance levels for fun"...

That way, "dry" folks could avoid it entirely...
"Fun" folks could start to read it...cautiously...then back out quickly if it wasn't their "idea of fun"...

Darn...I wish I had a good "tongue-in-cheek" smiley...

I prefer dry. We should take no enjoyment whatsoever in what we do. In fact, I got into this because I didn't want to smile. Besides, if we act like it's fun & joke about it everyone will want one.

Like that thread about keeping BPs in aquariums. That's ridiculous. No one in their right mind would keep a BP with tetras as all experienced owners know they prefer a cichlid tank.

This little moment of joking is a great tension breaker. In all honesty I have been reading this forum daily and religiously for a year and not posted much at all. Everyone was just too seriuos and became nitpickers and "experts" and forgetting why we all do this in the first place..just for the enjoymeny. I see nothing wrong with a little tension breaker now and then. Look at me I've posted more in the last few days than I have all year.

no offense but did you read my post. Look for every joke answer or thread there is a seriuos answer. If you frequently this forum often you will see the same questions over and over and over again. And guesse what people like rennasaince(sp. sorry) as well as others answer these same questions no prob without much sarcasm or w/out making the poster feel like a moron.I have seen it elsewhere though. Most joke threads go so overboard that they are unmistakenly jokes. I mean come on vienna sausages and Bp's in water with fish.
now if anyone one posted a thread on BP's not eating or Bp escaped thread and got replys with anger and insults I can see someone getting upset. Even your new advisary Ren. made a comment about nitpickers. However I dont see why your getting so upset about a little fun. I gaurantee you that almost everyone on here cares about reptiles and do not want any of them being mistreated. So if a seriuos question is asked a seriuos answer will follow I promise.
If you frequent the forums alot you also notice a trend for a poster who just wants to argue more than discuss...to me this is more harmful then some jokes

Perhaps you were r-e-a-l-l-y weary that day...???

Since you seem to believe that this forum imposes some kind of limit on the number or content of folks' posts, perhaps you would be kind enough to enlighten us as to what these limits are...
Who knows what "limitations on post numbers and content" I may be unaware of...???

I too have my criteria for people from whom I would or would not buy a ball python...whether expensive or inexpensive...
You should always purchase your animals from someone you feel comfortable dealing with...

However i dont understand what you meant by number of posts and type of replys..if your talking about last couple days then yes more jokes and non serious posts and alot of them. Most argumentive or insultive posts are only when replying with you. in any case between the two of you I'd say its close to even.
However if you look in the past and in archives you would see alot of help given by Renaissance and others. So far I have not seen anything nice or helpful from any post you have put on here and i still have not been judgemental i am merely trying to calm you down and help you realize its not worth all this negativity but if you wish to continue fighting go ahead but leave me out i prefer the humor thanks...

I know i dont post much,and when i do it isnt very constructive. But i have been reading this all along and thought you should hear the opinion of a lurker. I think that is rubbish. you cannot tell someone how to say things theyre going to say or make them change their way of saying it. which means some are cut and dry,some are humorous. i think those humorous people add a little spice to things,which makes things interesting,livens things up,and also makes that person more believeable,and more intelligent sounding in my book. someone who spits out facts sounds like theyve copied/pasted it onto the back of their hand. however someone who can joke a bit when giving advice or information sounds like they have experience. enough experience that theyre comfortable enough to joke around about the subject. People who take jokes the wrong way,thats on them. maybe they need to be welcomed to the real world. It isnt the speakers fault if the reciever takes the advice the wrong way,so that is on them.

I would guess, however, that the vast majority of forum participants/lurkers are probably herp enthusiasts.

The real problem when addressing any kind of "large audience", is that you will nearly always say something that upsets someone...
There are just too many people that come to this forum for there to be a concensus on every issue...
To suggest, however, that every post should be made assuming that the reader of the post will be a person who is new to herps...a person who has no experience with herps...is, in my opinion, ridiculous...

What should we do with "spirited genetics discussions"...???
"Dumb them down" to a level that every inexperienced herper finds understandable...???

To expect that every thread on this forum will always be acceptable to every forum participant/lurker is just plain unreasonable...
To expect that every thread on this forum should conform to your individual standards of acceptable levels of humor is just plain unreasonable...
To expect that any thread - whether serious or in jest - will not be misunderstood by some is just plain unreasonable...

A forum is a place for all to come and play...

We certainly have had our share of "interesting" threads...

One of the big problems with written communication...whether e-mail, forums, whatever...is that it can be difficult at times to ascertain the true nature of the posts being made...
As an example, if I were to send Mark Mandic an e-mail with the word "JERK!" in the Subject line...and the words "REAL JERK!" in the body of the message, I would either receive an e-mail or a phone call from Mark...probably laughing...asking whether I had taken my happy pills today...
I really don't think Mark would immediately leap to the assumption that I hated his guts...
But that's probably because Mark knows me...

I'm really quite surprised...and somewhat taken aback...by your post...
