Female will not stop digging - Any thoughts?

jstudy May 15, 2004 04:21 PM

Hi all,

Our oldest female finished laying her (hopefully) last batch of eggs a week ago. I think she is around 6 years old and has started laying many infertile eggs in her clutches. Her last clutch had 1 fertile egg, but I attribute this to the male being pulled a long time ago as I want to retire her from breeding.
Problem is, she won't stop digging. If we put her in the laying bin, she'll dig and turn to lay, then just sit there. She eats, and still has normal droppings, but she's excavating her tank most of the time.
Could this be a hormone imbalance? Is there a way to convince her that she's done laying?

Thanks,

-Jason
