A true giant

HerperHelmz May 15, 2004 04:24 PM

I recently found what I'm guessing is going to be my catch of the year, an adult female Northern ringneck. But, it is huge, not in length, but in thickness, I have had much experience with ringnecks, and never have heard of one this large. It's about 22 inches long and a little more than an inch thick. To get to this size, it must be atleast 5 years old, and it can eat small mice(not only pinkies) and small birds. I am about 70% sure it is gravid, but that is not the reason it is this thick, has anyone ever heard of one like it?

I'd like to see that!
I have 3' plus kings that are not much more than 1" thick.(diameter) Something is not right with those measurements IMO. Show us a pic. Should be easy enough to accurately measure the giant.

I highly doubt a picture could help show how big it is, it is honestly an inch thick, it's crazy, cause I have never seen one this big. It also doesn't like being held and will thrash about if you touch it, I will try and get the best pics I possibly can but I have a 35mm camera, it's not too good at getting herp pictures and I'd have to wait a little while to get the pics on a Picture CD, but when I get them I'll post them.

I would agree. An inch think is a bit much. Are you sure you have that right? Especially since ringnecks are a bit thinner than most other species.

Yeah an inch thick is alot more than ringnecks would or should get. I'm getting pics of it compared to my 17 inch male northern.
