cricket question

alexXx May 15, 2004 04:57 PM

hey all, my crested is about 2 months old now so i figure he's big enough for some crickets...any feeding tips? will he know right off the bat to go after and eat them? should i only leave the crickets in his tank for a certain amount of time (having leopard geckos im used to taking out any uneaten crickets in an hour)? i have heard that some owners put their crested in a feeding area...i have a small critter keeper...so if i have my crested in there with say 4 tiny crickets how long should i keep them in there? Im just curious cuz i use paper towel substrate and i dont want to just throw crickets in there and have them hide under the towel all day. thanks, all..

Alex, he's definitely big enough for crickets, just don't give him any that are longer than his head is wide. Most likely there will be no uneaten crickets if you feed him 4 at night -- I rarely end up with any leftovers with my cresties. If you have loose substrate, you might want to put the crickets in a high-sided dish that your crestie can hunt in, because a crestie with a mouth packed full of loose substrate is a bad thing. If you're using paper towels or newspaper or smilar, just dust the crix and dump them right in.
