Stunt Growth????? Please help.

tazycoop May 15, 2004 05:38 PM

Hi, i have two baby beardies. I bought them both a month apart and they are about a month apart in age as well and are of opposite sexes.

Is it possible that a beardie stunts its growth? the Female is a month older and is now about half the size of the male. When i first bought the two she was a lot bigger and he just grew an enormous rate and she is still about the same size from when i bought her. The male is now 8 months old and the female is 9 months old. I just want to know if this is normal or should something be done. thanks.

Sometimes it can be genetics, sometimes husbandry. Even if you do the same for both, different BDs may have different needs. How big and how old is she?

She is 9 months old at 81/2" and he is 8 months at 13". It seems that she only grew and inch or two from when i got her.

both of them seem to be on the small side. what is your husbandry like? Do you know the size of the parents?

Well her father was 18" and her mother 17". I am not to sure about his parents but they look decent in size in the pics that i have of them.

Those are average sizes for adults, but I agree with Bennett that both of yur lizards seem too small. I have a 4 month old male who is just under 13 inches and growing strong.

Can you give your husbandry specs?

Well i give them crickets daily. The female eats about 15-20 of them and the male eats about 20-30 of them, I also give them Collard Greens, Carrots, Yellow Squash, and Romaine. I leave that in the bowl for them before i leave for work and replace it after i come back. Sometimes i give them wax worms and meal worms (but not too many of them due to the fat content in the wax worms and the hard shell of the meal worms)I have another beardie house in the same cage but they dont see each other due to the wall that i built in between the two (a divider) and she is two years old and at 19 inches.
