count 'em...42!

lele May 15, 2004 07:11 PM

Well, we're done! Luna spent the night resting and digging. This morning before I left for class (8:00) she was filling in the hole. I got home at 4:30 (long class!) and she was in her branches and the 6 crickets I left in her cup were gone Then she ate a butterworm and 2 more crickets. Psyched! I expected to see her all covered in dry sand/soil but she's clean as a whistle! It does look like her snout and claws are a little abraded so I will keep an eye on them.

The final count was 42 weighing in at almost 32g - 1/3 of her total weight. Here's a pic of the largest and the average - I'm curious to know if this is the typical size of fertile eggs or are the infertile smaller? I can't believe they all fit in her!! It's amazing!

This has been a frustratingly wonderful experience and I am so proud of my little girl. And frankly, I am glad I don't have to find safe homes for 42 little Lunas

Thanks for everyone's input, support and patience(!) in this very lengthy process. For those of you who may not recall, Luna's siter, Ohana (Sonia/anson is her "Mom", laid her first infertile clutch back around December which is when Luna began showing colors and we all expected her to follow right behind...but, nooooo! Luna kept me hopping for 5 months!

OK, I'm going to have a beer and stare at the TV for awhile! LOL!

later,
lele & Luna

check out the gallery (lele) to see her two days ago and her she is today!

I am glad to see it is finally over for you. The top egg in the photo with the nickle actually is pretty similar in size to that of a fertile egg the only difference is the color. I am amazed how long it took for her to deposit her eggs. I never had a female veild carrying fertile or infertile eggs take that long to deposit thier eggs. I am sure you are releaved that this is over. Now you can get some rest, best of luck to you and luna in the future.

Well I'm glad its finaly over for you two. She looks so skinny now hehe, I'm sure she'll be fat as a little butterball again soon minus the eggs

The eggs are the size of my fertile eggs but mine are white not cream colored.

Wow that must be a load of your mind! Im very glad to hear shes ok!

Quick question on the eggs though, can you tell then immediatly which are fertile and infertile then when they come out? Being yellow or white or do you have to wait a bit before it shows? Just curious ^_^

All of Luna's eggs are infertile because Lele never bred her.

I know they were, I rememberd her saying before. ^_^ I was asking in GENERAL when the eggs come out, Can you tell right away?

chimbakka May 15, 2004 11:24 PM

I cant beleive she took that long to lay! I am SO releived that she got them all out fine!!! I know how it is just WAITING..
The eggs seem very different in size. All of Orion's that we got out were like the smaller one. I'm glad to hear that she is doing well!!!

sunshineherps May 16, 2004 05:28 PM

Congratulations!! That is awesome she finally laid them.

Make sure she is properly hydrated and she get good calcium dosage.

It is amazing how much thinner they look once they have dropped!!

evilcham May 17, 2004 03:35 AM

Woo, Conglats lele.

To help her recover, I will give mind with 'Hydro Life' to overcome those stress and dehydration.

Also, you should about to see a very fine 'red' blood line under light if egg is fertilized

lele May 17, 2004 08:35 AM

Is hydro life for dehydration? I have Electrolize but she is drinking a lot on her own and seems fine.

They were infertile b/c she was never bred - no question there unless some cham snuck in the middle of the night! LOL! She began showing colors, appetite change, etc. back in December so it was a long and confusing road. Next time (hopefully not too soon!) I'll know what to expect. She won't be bred then, either.

Thanks for you suggestion

Hydro life claims it help on dehydration, release stress and even starvation. To me, I use it twice a month as extra supplement for them.

lele May 17, 2004 09:18 AM

All these months of my obsessing and worrying you guys have been great! Only yesterday did I relaize how much I had been stressing about it - the relief I feel is more than I had imagined. Sometimes we don't know how something is affecting us until it is over!

She seems fine, a bit shy but hey - she just went thru 5 months of hormone confusion - the women on the forum can relate (and I am sure some of you guys, too!)

As for the egg color - they were not quite as yellow as the photo and were more a creamy white. Not sure why they looked that way in the photo.

thanks again!!!

Well, what a great relief! Now will you get off our backs???:0

Good for Luna. That's a pretty good average clutch. So nice to see a veiled lay something other than a frightening 60 eggs.
