Introducing Crickets

sirfugu May 15, 2004 07:12 PM

I have an 8 month old leo who seems to be a very finicky and delicate eater. So far the only thing i have been able to get her to eat is mealworms. I tried crix but she didn't seem interested, partly because it was within the first two days that i had her im sure. but since i have been feeding her mealies and she is a scaredy cat when it comes to eating. Sometimes she will even miss mealworms laying still. so i was wondering if there is any good technique to introduce crickets to her or make it easier for her to catch them because at this point im not even sure if she could catch one. Thanks to all replying.

Sounds gross...but try taking the back legs off the crickets. Also, if you are dusting the mealies all the time try either not dusting all the time or switching the brand. My male doesnt like dusted mealworms, so I just dust "treats" for him, or just just half the mealworm. He'll go to eat the mealie, lick it and get a disgusted look on his face if he tastes the dust! Good Luck!

slightly chill the crix...slows them down for a minute. Put a couple in a refrigerator for a minute or two, then throw them in with your gecko. They will "liven up" as they warm up.
