Right on, waters are so sweet and docile, I'm tempted to get a couple
myself.

Joe K. May 15, 2004 09:17 PM

This one came from Pro-Exotics. I think they have the best...Joe

yup Pro Exotics is who I was thinking of buying from if I was to get a couple
waters.

I've been waiting for them to get some in. Their website says they are sold out.

I'm not sure if they have any right now. I got this one from a freind of mine who purchased it from Robyn @ Pro-Exotics. My buddy didn't like him because he was so aggressive and was biting. I messed with him for the past 3 weeks and this is the result. An absoulute puppy dog !!!...........Joe

How did you mess with him? I assume you mean handling him.I've been wanting to try and tame my water. Had him for 3 weeks plus already. Could you give me some insight?

Joe K. May 16, 2004 01:36 PM

Just gentle handling inside the cage for a bit till he looked comfortable enough to come out. Of coarse when hes out you have to hold him so he doesn't jump off and run. Get him used to that inside the cage first then start to take him out for short periods. After some time they get used to it. also seems that they are the most skiddish when they are very small but they come around...Hope this helps...Joe

Thanks, do you have any other handling advice?

Bloodbat May 17, 2004 07:56 PM

Three weeks and you're already working to tame him? Rushing interaction that quickly more often than not makes it harder to encourage a monitor to become calm than leaving him alone and interact with him on his terms.

What exactly do you mean by interacting 'on his own terms'?

Bloodbat May 17, 2004 07:53 PM

Not all salvators turn out docile. In fact, an undocile salvator can be one of the most difficult and unpleasant animals you encounter. A 4, 5, 6, etc. ill-tempered animal is quite the challenge. Just be prepared. Even a "docile" baby can develop into quite the wild animal.
