Is there anywhere I can buy mealworms that have been gutloaded already?

osagereptiles May 15, 2004 11:38 PM

I would like to buy mealworms that are already gutloaded, is that possible. If I stick them in the fridge will they retain the gutload?

Thanks~

You have to keep all your feeders on gut-load so they are constantly gut-loading themselves. Feeder insects will loose their nutrional value in a short period of time.

Just make up a basic gut-load that you can afford. Go to my website and look at my gut-load. Pick out a few things that you can afford and there ya go. Alot of it is really cheap.

Well money isn't the problem I was thinking more for conveinance.

Currently, I have the mealworms in a mixture of oats, a little wheat, corn meal, Miner-all w/D3, and potatoe.

I have them in the fridge, will they still eat this while their in there?

Thanks
Brandon

When you put mealies, waxworms, whatever in the fridge, its cooler in there and this will make the insects slow down, or look lethargic. They wont move, they wont do anything until they are warmed up.

When crickets are shipped in the winter, as long as its above 30, they will look dead upon arrival, but once they warm up, then they will start eating. Same way with the worms. They wont be moving.

You have to take them out of the fridge to gut-load them. I never refridgerate mine. Mine always stay out 24/7 and are constantly gut-loading themselves. As long as you keep them cooler they wont pupate as fast.
