Amazon Acting Strange

tdaugh04 May 16, 2004 12:12 AM

Recently my amazon's behavior changed. He usually sleeps during the day and cruises around his cage at night. A few days ago, however, he starting sleeping on the ground during the day, and moving around at night. Now, he's back in his branches, but he usually stays in one spot, day and night. He hasn't been active at all these past two days. I was thinking that he was acting like this because it seems that he trying to shed, but one night I turned the light on and he was curled up on the ground with his mouth open. Isn't that the sign of a respiratory infection? I appreciate any help.

Hi,
Open-mouth breathing is a sure sign of respiratory infection.
Also you said he was staying in the same spot, if that spot is
the warmest area of the cage that's also a sign.He will spend
prolonged periods of time in the warmest area. Also encrustations
around the mouth and or nostrils, bubbly mucus in the mouth or
nostrils.Low humidity levels can cause res. inf. If you think
he has res. inf. he should be taken to a veterinarian, the best
thing you could do now is to quarantine in a room by it self no
other herps. No night time low's raise your temp. up 5 degrees higher than your nomal temp, and make sure the humidity is high
75 % and up.
Hope This Help's !
